Building off yesterday's post about finding your True North and trusting yourself, I want to share a list of affirmations. I created it for my Dancing in Nature experience.

As with any ideas that cross your path, take what resonates and leave the rest.

  • I TRUST MYSELF TO COURAGEOUSLY MOVE TOWARDS THE UNKNOWN.

To absorb these empowering statements, you can place your hands, one over your heart and the other at your solar plexus. You can also look into a mirror as you repeat them out loud to yourself. And rewriting them onto paper is another way to instill them into your subconscious mind.

I know I am harping on this idea of trusting yourself, and that's because it's THAT important to living a fulfilling life.

One of the most painful things we can do is make decisions that go against ourselves—feeling pressured to do things for other people's benefit when deep down you know it's not right for you. And deciding to go along with their wants, needs, and desires is the fastest way to self-betrayal. Ouch.

You're probably thinking, "What about a compromise? How does this play a part in caring for others?"

Trusting what's right for you IS caring for others. You can not be at peace or in joy if you make decisions based on other people's wants. Imagine a person who is happy with their choice because it was right for them versus someone who didn't listen to themselves and did what the other person wanted. Which one do you think will feel more free, happy, and at peace? Which one will be better to be around?

Creating an environment of peace for yourself IS caring for others. The other version will end up creating resentment, which can lead to destruction and bitterness towards the person who pressed their wants.

This is not to say compromise can't happen. It can. But it must be voluntary, not forced or manipulated. Both parties must be willing to agree. This is entirely different than giving into someone else.

Side note, I'm currently listening to Rosanna by Toto as I write this post. And if you look up the lyrics, it's about the relationship ending because he pressured her too much. And the singer tells Rosanna she'll never have to compromise and that he will "Meet you all the way."

Talk about confirmation! God is hilarious!

I think you get the point. #trustyourself

With lots of LOVE,
Teresa

PS. For extra credit, here is a post from almost a year ago "Honor Thyself". It has additional insight into this topic.
