Send It

Today I came across a Ted Talks with actor Ethan Hawke about giving ourselves permission to express ourselves through our creativity.

It was a great reminder that each of us has a unique Superpower to share in this world. However, if we don't say "YES!" to It, we are doing ourselves and humanity a disservice. We are literally walking, talking, breathing, and Creating machines! And here we are, stuck in our thinking minds getting in our own way of being fully expressed and sharing our incredibly unique voices.

As I look into what causes us to hold back, a few things seem to be factors in our creative journey.

1. We're waiting for permission from others that it's safe to move forward. We need reassurance that someone will like our art before we even make it. And we get trapped in limbo because we have so much on our hearts while waiting for external approval first that will never come.
2. The fear of being rejected. Ouf! This is a big one. We're afraid if we put our art out, people will judge and discard us. So we better play it safe and not even start. 
3. The fear that our art isn't good enough. I have been super guilty of this one. I have so many dance videos that I sat on and never pushed "Send." We go through all this effort to express an idea, and when the time comes to share it with others, we wince. You already know we are our worst critics, so why are we listening to that fearful little voice and giving so much power over our art?

The fact that our creative endeavors are so personally tied to our voice makes us extra sensitive. Yet if you look within, it's our ego playing the judge, critic, and jury.

So the practice is to make the art we want to express and then HIT SEND.

That's it. Practice the courage to override the small "protective" voice. Don't you think you've listened to it long enough?

It's time to show up and show out!
