Same vs. Change

better life change commitment desire habits life outcome shift transformation Aug 08, 2022

The more I go down this self-development road for myself and with others, the more I realize the desire to change is the first step. My friend and coach Rob Reynosa shared this idea a couple of weeks back on my IG Live. Since then, the topic of transformation and lasting change has been at the forefront of my mind.

I'm sure you and I have different areas of our lives where we "say" we want to change, but nothing happens when push comes to shove. We keep saying empty words with no action, hoping some miraculous event will change it for us. Poof! Instant change!

Trust me, I'm in the same boat as everyone else. For example, I want to have a daily workout schedule. And at the moment, incorporating workouts during the week has gotten a little better. Yet there is still something I'm holding onto in my current lifestyle that I'm not ready to let go of to have a consistent daily workout regimen.

I recognize there isn't a full commitment to my goal. Otherwise, I'd be doing it.

So what is it that's getting in the way?

It's either the pain of change feels too great, we're not uncomfortable enough to follow through with the change, or the desire for the goal isn't compelling enough to shift us forward.

So I want to ask you, where in your life have you spent a lot of lip service without any action hoping one day you'll have that new body, learn that new skill, or let go of those bad habits?

I invite you to take inventory. What are you complaining about? Do you want this part of your life to change or remain the same? Be honest with yourself.

The truth is, if you really wanted to change it, you would no longer be complaining about it at the moment. Instead, it would be clear your actions have aligned with the new desire, reality, or habits.

This is not to make us wrong for NOT changing the things we "say" we want differently. I bring this up because the more awareness we have around our life circumstances, the more we get to make a conscious decision to keep it the same or put fuel to the fire and get shifting. And when we're deliberately choosing our life experiences, it puts us in the driver's seat, which is a much better view no matter what we decide.
