Finding True North

It's funny when I look at the lessons I've learned through the tool of dance. Without realizing it, dance gave me an incredible foundation for living life on my terms. That's why freestyle and improvisation are so dear to my heart. I discovered my voice, learned the rules, knew when to break them, felt free, and most of all trusted myself.

Without all of this instilled in me, I don't think I would have made it out of the past two years as I did. As Life would have it, I had to implement what I learned through dance. I had to discover my voice, learn the rules, know when to break them, feel free, and most of all, trust myself.

Standing on my own two feet was no cakewalk as most of my peers, family, and friends thought I was a danger to society and silently kept their distance.

Now, I'm not here to try to convince anyone about my beliefs. But I definitely tried that route, and it didn't go so well. Lol. And this isn't about feeling sorry for me or having a pity party. Although it was painful, it made me incredibly resilient and grateful for honoring my truth.

And that's what I want to share with you. How to help you know YOUR TRUE NORTH?

  1. Accept the fact that we have been conditioned since we were born. Almost every aspect of our lives is indoctrinated. From the food we eat, what religion we practice or don't, what we wear, our morality, health care, political views, our beliefs about money, getting married, having kids, what job security looks like, and what success looks like to name a few. Without acknowledging the deep indoctrination, your True North is comprised of other people's ideology. This doesn't mean it's wrong. It just means it isn't YOURS.
  2. Discovering your True North means going beyond the face value of things and cultivating curiosity. This means questioning EVERYTHING you believe to be true. Asking questions like, "Is this true? Is there more to the story? What are they NOT telling me? How do I know this is true? Does this feel off? Why does this make me uncomfortable? Do I have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset when it comes to this subject?"
  3. Tune out the noise and learn how to get Centered. And learn to listen to the Whispers. That's your True North speaking. Yet it's hard to hear It if you're going to social media and the news for information and having an emotional reaction.
  4. Know the difference between reacting and responding. The instantaneous emotional reaction to world events means you're not thinking for yourself. Take a pause and ask yourself those questions from point number two. Then see if you still think and feel the same way.
  5. Know that you can break the "rules" any time you choose. Realizing that they are all arbitrary and no one is policing them, especially morality "rules," which shift with the tides of mass culture. And then you have an incredible opportunity to CREATE your own rules. This is so rewarding.

There are many ways to undo all of the mind control we have been under since birth. And again, I'm not trying to get you to agree with me or my beliefs. I just know how much we have been sucked into the Matrix of the masses, and I've been able to get out. I've been able to hear the Whispers and follow them. I've been able to honor my truth, especially when it wasn't popular.

My hope for you is to discover life on your terms. Feel free from the worry about money, followers, and success. Trusting yourself MORE than what other people think is "right."

That's my hope for you.

With lots of LOVE,
Teresa
