A Meaningless World

acim cause ego experience fear god meaning miracle thought trust world Mar 06, 2022

Not sure if you know that I am reading A Course In Miracles. And every day is a new lesson.

Today's lesson led me to a new aha moment.

The beginning of the lessons is all about separating our thoughts from the meaning we give to objects, people, events, and the importance we give our actual thoughts.

As I go further along, I'm starting to sense that my ego is the one creating the meaning of everything I see and experience. Not to make that good or bad, just taking note.

And then today's lesson says, "A meaningless world engenders fear." in case you're wondering what engender means, as I did, it means "to produce or cause."

We are instructed to look at things in our surroundings and say, "I am looking at a meaningless world."

This part of the exercise made me uncomfortable, especially when I looked at pictures of my doggies who have transitioned or anything else that has a strong emotional tie.

Then the lesson says to finish the practice with this statement. "A meaningless world engenders fear because I think I am in competition with God."

WHAAAA?!!!

When I felt fear by saying my picture of my doggies is meaningless, I realized my fear, created because of the meaning I give it, is in competition with God.

Well, that just freaking blows my mind!

God is All-Encompassing LOVE. Yet the meaning we give to objects, people, places, events, and even thoughts creates fear. So how can we trust God if we fear It?

Not sure if this makes sense because I know I'm barely holding on to the concept myself.

That's it for today.

With lots of LOVE,
Teresa
