The Secret to Life

Here is the piece of the Life-Puzzle we have all been searching for...

The point of our whole existence is: TO HAVE FUN!

That's it, folks. No grand ah-ha, yet we get caught up in the seriousness of life. We add to that seriousness by ensuring we have our plan in place, cross our "t's," and dot our "i's." We are told to follow the rules, color inside the lines, and be nice. We're meant to be selfless and put others first. And we better live by all of these standards so that we will be accepted and loved. Whew.

One, we will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be able to live by these imaginary rules. Yet we find ourselves trapped by obligation, needing to be liked, and playing along, so other people will consider us a "good" person.

When we unconsciously follow someone else's benchmarks, we quickly lose sight of what makes life worth experiencing. We get so caught up in making sure we're validated, seen, and loved by other people that we're not even aware of the wasted energy trying to please everyone around us.

This very act of pleasing others keeps us distracted from OUR purpose and desires. It's such a subtle way to play small and hide from what makes us light up. The truth is, it does feel nice to be generous and go out of our way for others. But, this type of kindness is not what I'm talking about.

I'm referring to the times we want to tell them, "No, thank you." Or when we have that scary feeling, we better post something, or we will stop being relevant. Or when we keep quiet so we don't offend anyone when deep down we feel like speaking up.

As we rub against each scenario, we give these little interactions more meaning than necessary. Then, finally, it's like the one short piece of yarn that's loose, and we start to pull at it and watch the sweater unravel before our eyes. And we're left with nothing but lost time and energy and still unfulfilled.

If only we could do it all over again and do it differently.

The great news is we can.

Go back to the beginning... let go of playing life by other people's rules and START DOING WHAT MAKES YOU LIGHT UP.
