I've been writing on my blog page every day for the past 46 days, and here's what I'm learning about committing to your goals.

The hardest part is... STARTING.

No matter how I feel, I get up off the daybed, walk over to my office, turn on the neon rainbow light above my desk, open my laptop, and hit the big blue button "NEW BLOG POST +."

The first time you show up, it's not going to feel natural, but you will feel accomplished and proud that you did it.

So how do you get yourself to show up the next day?

Give yourself a trigger that reminds you to get to work.

My trigger to take action is the clock. I NEED to get the daily writing habit in BEFORE midnight.

My first week was interesting because I STARTED the writing before midnight, but technically the post wasn't finished till after 12 am. BUT because I STARTED it on the day, I counted them as a win.

A week later, I set up a new parameter. The post had to be written and finished before the clock strikes 12.

Lo and behold, it worked!

Now it's easy to get to the blank page and do the thing I've always wanted to do!

I'm also receiving an extra unexpected gift through this goal. That is, I see I can keep my word to myself. And that is a big deal for me personally!

I'm pretty sure you will have the same beneficial side effect of building your confidence too.

To recap:

  1. Name your DAILY goal.
  2. Create a trigger that will be the signal to START.
  3. Show up EVERY DAY, NO MATTER WHAT!

Here's to improving our lives one day at a time.

With lots of LOVE,

Teresa
