The FIRE is Back!

You and I have lived long enough to know we don't always keep in touch with the people we grew up with. Some friends and relationships are here for a season. And that's totally normal. Friends come and go, and sometimes they come back.

As I reflect on the transition into a spinoff of my dance career, the past two years have been an incredible blessing. However, if you've read any of the past posts, it's no secret how painful the transition has been for me. Lossing an exorbitant amount of friends, all at once, cut to my core.

Yet I'm finally over the hump and can see the magnificence of it all. And boy, it's perfection on top of perfection. I wouldn't change a thing.

One of the biggest blessings is the amount of time and space I had to transition from a 25-year dance career into a new direction of teaching, mentoring, and writing. Without the global pause button, I would probably still be in my dance career doing what was expected and easy but not feeling the spark of passion I used to have. I also had the space to mourn what used to be and make room for my next adventure.

I'm also grateful for the in-my-face confrontation and behind-my-back distancing for expressing myself in public. As I said, this one has been incredibly challenging to move through, but I know I'm on the other side of the pain now. The experience of losing 20-year friendships showed me how strong I am for honoring my truth and not buckling to societal demands. I'm so grateful to my distant friends for sharpening my knife. Thankfully I will never be the same.

And I'm grateful for all the new people that have come into my life. I've established a solid foundation of friends who genuinely give support, want to build each other up, and hold space for the good, the bad, and not-so-pretty moments too.

Now that I'm done licking my wounds, I feel the thrill and excitement of my new journey into the Unknown. I am blessed beyond blessings.

I know who I am. I know where I am going. And most importantly, I rediscovered the part of me that I didn't know was missing... the FIRE is back.
