The Ego at All Costs.

Today on my IG Live, we talked about Attachment = Pain. Although we went in-depth, a piece of the puzzle that we didn't talk much about was how the ego is the source.

Wherever there is pain and suffering, at the core of it is our lovely ego. It's the part of us that wants to matter so badly that we end up cutting off our noses to spite our faces. Instinctually, the ego has this self-preservation mechanism that demands, "I must have significance!"

And this is where all wars, battles, fights, competitions, debates, arguments, frustrations, disappointment, fear, struggle, and grief lives. In our attempt to "matter," we have this human need to be seen as "special." (I just realized what I wrote seemed oddly familiar. Thank you, Janet Jackson, for the lyrics. Lol)

But the thing we forget to acknowledge is so is everyone else! This lack of awareness that everyone is just as unique as we are, creates the illusion that we are separate. Therefore, the ego's insatiable desires must maintain a sense of independence at all costs.

So when we forget our Oneness, we feel the sting of pain every time we claim our division. Every time we attach a label to distinguish our differences, we create more pain and suffering for ourselves. We end up proving nothing. Trust me. I tried proving my point over the past two years, and it was excruciatingly painful. And to be honest, there's still some work to be done in this area.

The healing work on our part is to recognize when we are attached to needing to be "right, better, valued, respected, heard, and loved." Now I'm not saying this is easy work, but it is required if we choose to live a life with vitality, joy, ease, love, and peace.

Now we have a choice.

We can continue to add fuel to the fire and continue the division of the ego, or we heal the pains by doing the inner spiritual work that actually matters.
