Staying Alive

"Sometimes deep skills means deep ruts." ~ Brendon Burchard

Do you think this is true? Do you find yourself getting stuck in a rut at times?

That's definitely happened with me in dance. It's as if I hit a plateau and was in a funk. Every time I danced, I felt like I was doing all the same moves, which I probably was, and nothing seemed to be different enough. Come to think of it, dancing just didn't feel new anymore.

And maybe that's it? When you do something long enough, it can begin to lose its luster. The challenging part about getting into a slump is how gradually we fall in. It's a very subtle process, and you don't even notice it's happening.

And then, one day, you realize my passion isn't as fulfilling as it used to be. What happened?

Well, there are a couple of things here that I hope can help you jumpstart your spirit.

  1. Sometimes taking a break is necessary. Give yourself time to relieve the pressure of stagnation. And at the same time, be careful not to take too much time off where getting back on the horse becomes a challenge.
  2. In the genre that you're in, look into new information about it. Study new people, watch videos, or take a class you've never taken before. The whole point is to try something NEW. This should give at least a boost to feeling good about your art. And then you can build momentum quickly from there.
  3. Do something completely different from your craft. This is a pretty open idea. It can be anything! Just as long as you've never done it before. If you really want to rock your boat, do something you've always wanted to do and never taken the time.

Plain and simple, it's all about feeling alive again.

Now you've got two choices. Stay in the rut or stay alive.

With lots of LOVE,
Teresa
