Someone I Don't Know Died

blog blog post curly hair died hashtag instagram intention last words red hair rest in peace social media Feb 16, 2021

For my second time showing up to write every day for the next 30 days, I know the subject isn't a topic most people want to discuss.

BUT, something struck me today as I was scrolling on IG. A friend of mine posted about someone they knew who had passed away. I didn't know that person at all, but I went to their page to see who it was. She seemed like a lovely person who was living and chasing the dream. I saw posts about her dogs, and I immediately wondered who is taking care of them now. And then I went back to the top to her last post.

It was a simple picture of her beautiful curly red hair, and the caption had something to do with taking note of it. That's all it was. Nothing profound. No hint of needing to leave some last words. Just hashtags about her curly hair.

I wonder what happened to her. I wonder what she wanted out of life. Was she living it? Or was she meandering?

There's a sense of immortality in the way she showed up on Instagram that day. The caption reading in such a simplistic and ordinary manner.

And I couldn't help but wonder if she had known that would be her final post, would she have posted something different?

I've been contemplating her last words, and I now realize she left us a gift. This question:

If today was your last day, and today was your last post, what final words do you want to leave the rest of us?

We all know there's a lot of noise, pressure, and stress on social media, but wouldn't it be great if we started being more intentional when we show up? Would you rather elevate and impact others than add to the noise of needing attention?

I know not everything has to be some deep, prolific shot of wisdom. But even a small shift in our intention can make a noticeable difference.

So again, I'll leave you with this question to ask yourself when you head over to social media:

If today was your last day, and today was your last post, what final words do you want to leave the rest of us?

I have to thank our new red-haired angel for giving us this wonderful reminder. #restinpeace #curlyredhair

 With lots of LOVE,
