One agreement away.

accountability accountability partner agreement be better better life calendar clarity commitment follow-through goals help life responsibility specific Mar 31, 2021

We've talked about this before, but I think it's important to reiterate.

Some people out in the world have the skill to keep themselves accountable to their goals.

For the rest of us, we have that nagging feeling we could be doing better and worse, we SHOULD be doing better, but we're not.

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda will not get us to the other side of committing to the thing we want to change.

This is our reminder of the power of imploring the help of someone else in the accountability area.

Here are 3 things to help you get specific on what you want and how to get committed and build momentum.

  1. What's your goal? Get specific, though. For example, I want to exercise, and get fit is NOT enough clarity. Clearly name the type of exercise you want to do like, yoga, go biking, running, dance class.
  2. How often, time of day, and duration of time allotted for the goal? Lock down exactly how many days a week and, even more specifically, which days of the week you're going to show up. For example, I will go biking 3 days a week M, W, F at 9 am for 1 hour.
  3. Put it on your calendar! Make it more real by writing it down. There's something powerful about the written word compared to just relying on thoughts alone.

Now you've done that, call up a friend who will help be your reminder to show up for the things you've committed to. Make sure to give them the detailed plan you've laid out for yourself. Their only job is to check in either daily or weekly on your commitments and progress.

If at any time you find yourself not showing up, go back to the drawing boards and examine the block that consistently keeps getting in the way of your goals. It might not be obvious, but there is one. You just have to look at your patterns.

Also, make sure to share with your responsibility partner WHY you need to commit and follow through.

Your better life is just one agreement away.

With lots of LOVE,

Teresa
