Let Her Decide

Not sure if you know about the feral cat that Gabe and I recently "adopted." We named her Egypt in honor of the Egyptian Goddess Bastet, and she is pure magic. I am mesmerized by her elegance, instincts, and carefree essence. She lives in our backyard, where she is free to come and go as she pleases.

Letting go of controlling her decisions to leave the yard can be challenging. Yet I keep telling myself, "She knows what she is doing. You can't control her." And this is where I tell myself, "You don't want anyone controlling you either." And so I breathe out a sigh and let go for the night while she takes off to be her most fulfilled self.

Then a couple of days ago, she oddly did not show up till very late. And right away, we knew something had happened to her. Egypt's demeanor was stand-offish, and she didn't want to be touched. So on one end, we were happy to have her back, and on the other hand, we didn't know what was wrong.

We eventually noticed she was limping and couldn't put any weight on her back right paw. So we took her to the vet, where they did exrays. And sure enough, her femur is broken.

Gabe and I were given two options. We can have her get a metal plate to connect the bone back together or amputate her leg at the hip. With the doctor's experience seeing both versions play out, she recommends we amputate. We also sought out a couple of other professionals with a lot of experience, and they confirmed the same thing.

So what are we to do?

We can weigh out the pros and cons of both options in combination with the professionals' advice. OR maybe we can go directly to the source?

With all of the de-programming I am doing in my own life, I am learning to go to my Center for the answers. I am learning to honor what's right for me regardless of what experts say is the recommended action.

Now Gabe and I have a beautiful opportunity to honor Egypt's needs and desires. It would be arrogant of us to believe she doesn't have a say in what happens to her. And it would be naive of us to believe she can't communicate them clearly.

So we're going to let her decide.

With lots of LOVE,
Teresa
