Entelechy (noun), pronounced en•tele•key

I read this word for the first time last night, and I am intrigued by it. I can't seem to let it go.

I looked it up. It means:

  1. actuality as opposed to potentiality.
  2. a vital agent or force directing growth and life.

Huh??!

I'm not sure why I'm even sharing this right now. I don't fully understand what it means.

The original context for the word "Entelechy" came from a book I'm reading. It says, "It means the becoming actual of what was potential, turning something into practical usefulness as opposed to theoretical elegance."

So from that context, it sounds like it's turning a mental concept into applied action that leads to knowing or being.

As a writer, I see how important language is to communicate whatever my Being wants to express. But, come to think of it, I did that as a dancer too.

The more vocabulary I learned, the better dancer I became. This is no different.

Whatever skill or skills we desire to improve requires us to stretch our understanding. So even if we feel we've reached a certain level of excellence, we still need to expand beyond our comfort zone with something unknown if we want to be even better.

My question to you is, "What skill do you desire to be an entelechy? What is something that you want to turn potential into reality?"

My entelechy is becoming a better writer.

Wow. I think I grasped the understanding of the word!

Did you?

With lots of LOVE,
Teresa
