acceptance creativity expression perfect pressure social media validation Oct 27, 2021

It must be hard growing up in the age of social media. The pressure of being "perfect" gnawing at every post. Although I understand to a degree because I use it, the thought of becoming a confident and opinionated person in this digital era seems like an extra task that did not use to exist.

When I look back on my dance career, I am so grateful I could make my mistakes behind closed doors. Yes, I still had to deal with the consequences, but it only affected those affected.

This is not the case anymore.

All of our dirty laundry is out to dry in front of the morality mob. And if they catch wind of what they deem as "wrong," you better watch out!

No wonder why people play it so safe or take the easy route. Posting socially acceptable things by the masses, posting sexual selfies with a random quote to seem profound, and posting easy 30 seconds regurgitated dance routines to get views, likes, and followers.

Look, I'm not here to bag on anyone's hustle. Do you boo!

What I am saying is, where are the people taking chances, risks, or going against the grain? Where are the dangerous ones who live by their own rules and create their own unbeaten path? Who are the ones ahead of the game instead of playing the game?

I know they exist and that potential lives in each of us, but we're too worried about being liked than being our own.

If we could just let go of the need to be accepted, that would be a start.
